What we do

The Air cadet organisation offers activities that will challenge, excite and give you a sense of adventure, along with structured learning that will help you gain knowledge and first-hand experience.

You join the squadron on a trial basis where you will get to know the staff and cadets and start your basic training. Once you have gone through your basic training you will be introduced to more activities as you progress allowing you to get opportunities you would not normally have.

As a cadet you will get to go on camps there are several opportunities for this including

  • RAF Station camps – A week-long camp costing a nominal fee for the week which includes all transport, activities and meals. On a station camp, you get to see what the station does so for example RAF Scampton you may get a chance to see the red arrows up close and personal and have a chat with the pilots about their life as an RAF Pilot

  • Overseas camps – Spend 7 days in Cyprus with fantastic views and weather where you can take part in lots of fun water-based activities including swimming, water skiing, banana boat rides and lots more. Or spend 7 days in Gibraltar exploring the famous Gibraltar rock which contains more roads inside the rock compared to the outside of the rock. See sites such as large cannons and caves carved within the rock, tunnels leading to a make-shift mortuary that was used in the war.

  • Camping – Getting you working in teams you can learn new survival skills and progress through your Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) seeing different views and meeting lots of new people of similar ages and interests

  • Adventure training – Learn to rock climb, do archery, mountain biking, hill walking, canoeing and kayaking, high ropes, obstacle course and much more.

  • Shooting – There are various shooting opportunities .22, L98, DCCT range (electronic simulation range), clay pigeon shooting.

  • Sporting activities – Sport plays a big role in cadet life, there are competitions run throughout the year including Rugby, Football, Netball, Hockey, Athletics and much more. This is a chance for you to shine for your squadron then you can go on and represent your wing and even the top level and compete at the Corps level.

  • First Aid – Learn all the first aid skills you need to put into practice in a real situation starting at Heart start through to becoming a first aid instructor and teaching first aid.

  • Model making – Each squadron runs project nights where you can get involved in different activities and rotate around them these range from Model Making, Falklands competition, Drill etc.

Being a cadet is all about learning through practical experience so get involved and get active.
