The Air Cadets coach cadets in target shooting. The aim is to help young people experience marksmanship in a safe environment, helping them improve skills and achieve “marksmanship awards”. Cadets that show aptitude and skill and go on to represent the Squadron, Wing and Corps and national competitions approved by the National Small Bore Rifle Association.

Cadets have the opportunity to fire Air Rifles and .22 Rim Fire rifles locally and the L98-A2 Cadet Purpose Rifle, firing 5.56mm rounds, at Army and RAF stations. The Air Cadets have qualified staff that instruct, test and coach the cadets and progression in shooting can be fast.

At Chelmsford over 30% of the cadets have a Marksmanship award of some level.
